It’s with great excitement that I welcome you to the inaugural edition of the Foodpreneur Advantage Quarterly Newsletter.
As a Senior Business Advisor with the London Small Business Centre, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with food and beverage entrepreneurs for more than 10 years. Since the launch of the Foodpreneur Advantage Program in 2021, that work has deepened even further, supporting an incredible community of founders who are transforming ideas into products and products into thriving businesses.
What makes this work especially meaningful is that we are not doing it alone. We are proud to stand alongside 25 Local Delivery Partner Small Business Enterprise Centres (SBECs) across Ontario. Together, we form a strong, collaborative network that is committed to supporting food and beverage CPG producers and manufacturers in every corner of the province. This collective approach ensures that entrepreneurs—regardless of where they are located—have access to the guidance, tools, and expertise they need to succeed.
At its core, Foodpreneur Advantage is about helping entrepreneurs move from concept to commercialization. For those in the early stages, that often begins with something simple yet powerful—a family recipe, a unique flavour profile, or an idea inspired by a gap in the market. From there, the journey can quickly become complex. Navigating production regulations, understanding food safety requirements, developing compliant packaging, building a brand, and figuring out how to get products onto shelves are all critical—and often overwhelming steps.
That’s where we come in.
Through Foodpreneur Advantage, we support clients in building that strong foundation. We help them understand the regulatory landscape, refine their packaging and labeling, and develop go-to-market strategies that allow them to start generating revenue. Whether it’s their first farmers’ market or their first retail placement, we are there to guide them through those early milestones.
For businesses that are already operational and ready to take the next step, our Foodpreneur Scale-Up program provides a more advanced level of support. Growth brings a new set of challenges—scaling production, managing cash flow, entering new markets, and building the right partnerships. Through a comprehensive curriculum of training, coaching, and mentorship, we work with these entrepreneurs to strengthen their operations and position them for sustainable expansion.
The food and beverage CPG industry in Ontario is dynamic and full of opportunity. We are seeing continued growth in consumer demand for locally produced goods, clean-label products, and brands with authentic stories. There is increasing opportunity for producers to sell not only at the local level—through farmers’ markets and independent retailers—but also regionally, provincially, and across Canada through larger retail chains and e-commerce platforms.
At the same time, the sector is not without its challenges. Rising input and production costs, evolving regulatory requirements, supply chain disruptions, and an increasingly competitive marketplace are realities that today’s entrepreneurs must navigate. Success requires not only a great product, but also resilience, adaptability, and strong business fundamentals.
Despite these challenges, what continues to stand out to me year after year, is the determination and creativity of the entrepreneurs we work with.
On a personal level, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing that journey come full circle. Walking through a farmers’ market and spotting a product that started as an idea in one of our sessions. Seeing a client’s brand featured in a local boutique retailer. Or coming across their product on the shelves of a national grocery chain. Those moments never get old. They are a powerful reminder of the impact this work has not just on individual businesses, but on our local economies and communities.
This newsletter is an extension of that work. It’s a space where we will share insights, highlight success stories, explore industry trends, and connect you with opportunities to help you grow.
Thank you for being part of the Foodpreneur Advantage community. I look forward to continuing this journey with you.
